Reduced Voltage Starters

Class 8640, 8606, 8630

To comply with Section 430-3 of the National Electrical Code®, combination part-winding starters are provided as follows:

Circuit Breaker: two thermal magnetic, adjustable trip circuit breakers; one for each motor winding. In the FA and KA frames, a single external operating mechanism operates the two breakers simultaneously. In KA and LA frames, each breaker has its own operating mechanism, but electrical interlocks prevent motor operation unless both breakers are closed.

Non-Fusible Disconnect: a single 3-pole unfused disconnect of the proper rating for both windings. The user is required to provide proper short-circuit protection external to the starter, using only Class J fuses.

Fusible Disconnect Switch: a single unfused disconnect with two sets of fuse clips (each set of the rating indicated) to provide short-circuit protection for each winding.
