Dry Type 600 Volts and Below

Special Voltage, Shielded Isolation, Drive Isolation and Buck Boost Transformers Class 7400

Special Voltage Transformers—Shielded and Non-shielded

Square D offers special voltage transformers built to customer specifications. Many options such as lower sound level, copper windings, special frequency, etc. are available but not listed below. Contact your nearest Square D/Schneider Electric sales office for details.

All two-winding transformers are "isolating" or "insulating" because there is no electrical connection between the primary and secondary windings. Additionally, critical equipment might require an electrostatic shield be furnished between primary and secondary to attenuate some of the source line interference and common-mode noise.

Protection from transverse-mode transients is obtained by adding surge suppressors and filters to the shielded isolation transformer.

Single phase units are listed on page 12-2.

Electrostatic Shield is indicated by the letters IS at the end of the catalog number.

Product Data Bulletin 7400PD9202 describes technical details of shielded and filtered transformers.

Drive Isolation Transformers—Three Phase

Special design considerations must be made for the requirements of both adjustable frequency and dc motor drive power isolation. Allowance for high surge, harmonic and offset currents are taken into account in the design of Square D Company drive isolation transformers. Drive isolation transformers are not shielded isolation transformers, but act to lessen transient generation into the supply power and act as a buffer for SCR current surges. cULus Listed.

Single Phase—Buck and Boost Transformers

Buck and Boost transformers are isolating transformers that have 120 X 240 volt primaries and either 12/24 or 16/32 volt secondaries. When used as isolating transformers they carry the full load stated on the nameplate. By special interconnection of the windings, an auto-transformer is obtained. When used this way for bucking or boosting small voltage changes, the kVA load they carry is large compared to their physical size.

Note: When used to supply a 3-phase, 4-wire load, the source must be 3-phase, 4-wire.
